Motor Vehicle Accident with Fatalities
Niles, IL – On 09/06/2018 at approximately 5:47 a.m. the Niles Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Dempster Street and Harlem Avenue. Upon arrival it was learned that an accident involving a Cook County Sheriff’s marked squad car and a Honda Accord. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Cook County Sheriff’s vehicle was traveling east bound on Dempster approaching Harlem Avenue. The Honda was traveling south on Harlem Avenue approaching Dempster Street. The Cook County Sheriff’s vehicle struck the Honda in the intersection hitting the passenger side of the vehicle. The Niles Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated the two occupants of the vehicle and transported them to Lutheran General Hospital. The Cook County Sheriff’s Officer, a 47 year old male, was also transported to Lutheran General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda a 69 year old female from Norridge and a 64 year old Female from Chicago succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at Lutheran General Hospital. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification to the families. The accident investigation is currently being handled by the NORTAF – Major Crash Assistance Team. At this time weather may have been a contributing factor. The accident remains under investigation.
