Classmate Post:
Option 1: Everyone has been impacted by COVID-19. Describe the following for your peers: a) How has your professional life been impacted by the pandemic? b) How has your personal life been impacted by the pandemic? c) Putting your community health nurse hat on, what can you do as a nurse to help the community with prevention and care during the pandemic (not bedside nursing)?
- I was in Nursing School right as the world was dipping their toe into re-emergence. For the first year of school, we were virtual. Lectures, labs, and clinicals were all done online. I feel it hindered my learning and prevented essential hands-on training that could have better prepared me in the workforce.
- I really don’t know how COVID-19 affected my personal life. I was able to quarantine with my significant other and our dog. Friends visited and we were in an area where we could safely venture outdoors. We could video chat with others who were far away. I consider myself to be very lucky during that time. I did not lose loved ones to illness and did not fall ill myself.
- As a nurse, I can work with local governments to review and improve emergency operations plans, develop plans to support homeless individuals and other highly vulnerable populations, as well as provide education about preventions such as social distancing, ppe, vaccinations, and the importance of hand washing.
