Ethnicity and race can have an impact on a person’s health care in many ways. Minority groups are much less likely to have easy access to health care services, this can be caused by transportation issues, having no insurance or the language barrier. (Rosenberg 2022). These obstacles make it harder for minorities to obtain preventive health care services, so they usually go without it. The social determinants a person lives in can greatly affect their health. For example, communities that have a high poverty rate most likely have housing that is not up to standard code compliance, this can cause families to suffer from respiratory problems due to mold. (Rosenberg 2022). Racism can also be a social determinant of health, the stress and anxiety that racism causes can lead to mental and physical health problems. There are also certain diseases that are more prevalent in certain racial and ethnic groups due to genetic predisposition, unfortunately because of the lack of preventive and primary care in these communities many people will develop additional comorbidities without getting the help they need. (Rosenberg 2022).
