After Congress passes legislation, it is sent to the President to review. At this point, the President will sign the bill into law or veto the bill.

The Occupational Safety and Health Act was passed into law in 1970. The Act aimed at protecting individuals in their workplaces while most importantly ensuring that the employers provide safe work environments which are free of hazards such as toxic chemical substances, unsanitary conditions, and mechanical dangers among others (Leboff, 2020). The law also enabled the creation of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor (Rothstein, 2020).
The Occupational Safety and Health Act has impacted my life in a big way in ensuring that I work in safe work environments. It is vital to note that employers are keen on demonstrating compliance with the law to minimize legal suits, revocation of licenses, or even high employee turnover rates which could negatively affect productivity. Employees are an asset in a workplace and therefore looking into their welfare by ensuring safety increases their productivity, loyalty, and most importantly their job satisfaction levels. I have been able to work efficiently without having to worry about negative health outcomes directly linked to the work environment or even exposure to harmful substances.
If the law had been vetoed, there would be no standards regulating workplaces. The employees would be vulnerable to workplace hazards with minimal regulations and legal frameworks defining the course of actions. The lack of legal and standardized guidelines concerning workplace safety could have resulted in exploitation, high employee turnover rates, and civil lawsuits between employees and employers. The law has therefore resulted in the prevalence of law and order in the workplace and the maintenance of dignity.
