The framers of the Constitution created Congress as the cornerstone of the new nation. Congress is made up of elected officials, called legislators, who represent the people who voted them into office. Legislators\’ primary role is to create the laws that will govern the country. To create a law, a bill must be introduced to a legislative body, such as Congress at the national level, the state legislature at the state level, or perhaps a city council at the local level.
Imagine that you are a representative or that you are going to write to your representative with an idea for a bill.
What issue would your bill address?
At what level of government (federal, state, or local) would you introduce this bill? Why would you introduce it at that level?

Unit 2 Discussion Board
Laws are of paramount importance in a country as they ensure that the country is governed logically. In the United States, a representative that seeks to introduce a bill must follow the laid out procedure of presenting the bill into the House of Representatives where it is passed, it goes to the Senate for further review and analysis (Congress, n.d).
If I were a representative, I would present a bill regarding the control of the prices of prescription medication in the US. The United States is struggling with high costs of prescription medications as compared to other developed nations. The high costs of medicines have resulted in the creation of inequalities in access to drugs especially among the low-income populations that can neither afford health insurance nor fee for service spending (Cutler, 2017). It is vital to acknowledge that individuals with private insurance can comfortably access prescription drugs while those relying on public insurance and fee for service payment are likely to experience limitations due to the lack of financial power.
I would use the federal level of government to introduce the bill since, at the federal level, all American citizens will have representation. Similarly, the issue of high costs of prescription drugs is a phenomenon prevalent across the country and not one limited to specific states. More so, the federal government has the power and authority to regulate the different states. I would, therefore, use the platform as a representative to act as an advocate for the population with the ultimate goal of enhancing accessibility of the drugs while at the same time minimizing the gap between the haves and have nots.
