Despite there being a great deal of federal funding spent on early education, not all children have access to early learning opportunities. A great push has been made to expand the access to high-quality programs by culturally diverse children through making larger federal investments in early education (Curenton, & Iruka, 2013). Early childhood development professionals have a powerful role in the development of these high quality learning experiences for children.
To prepare for this discussion:
· Please refer to the Week 4 Guidance for further tips and examples that will support your success with this discussion.
· Read Chapter 6: Enhancing Culturally Diverse Children’s Access to High-Quality Programs in your course text.
· Review the source the Children in the states factsheets (Links to an external site.) 2015 and select two states—the state you live in and another—to focus on for your discussion.
· Read the article “Rights are the Words for Being Fair”: Multicultural Practice in the Early Childhood Classroom (Links to an external site.)
In your initial post:
· Create and attach a graphic representation (e.g., chart, table, or graph) that clearly shows the differences in these statistics between your two chosen states.
· You are encouraged to use the chart, table, or Smart Art features in Microsoft Word to create your graphic
· Analyze your findings and determine if the culturally diverse children in your state are receiving access to high-quality programs relative to the children in the other state.
· Justify your analysis by providing a comparison between the funding, percentage of students served, and percentage of identified poor children based on the data for the two states
· Explain at least two recommendations for culturally diverse families to increase access quality to childcare in your community.
