The Journal of Nursing Education
One selected nursing journal for this discussion is the Journal of Nursing Education. It is a monthly, peer-reviewed journal that published original articles and new ideas for nurse educators in different types and levels of nursing programs. The Journal of Nursing Education has existed for over 50 years since it was established (Journal of Nursing Education, 2020). This journal promotes the teaching and learning process as well as curriculum development. The Journal of Nursing Education also promotes creative innovation and research in nursing education. It provides access to publication options to many authors of accepted peer-reviewed articles.
It is a recognized journal indexed in various databases such as MEDLINE/PubMed, Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, Current Contents/Social and Behavioral Sciences, and CINAH. It is also indeed in ProQuest, Ageline, British Nursing Index, SCOPUS, EMBase, EMCare, Journal Citation Reports Social Sciences, and Educational Research Abstracts (Journal of Nursing Education, 2020). The Journal of Nursing Education has a very big editorial board that ensures the paper is well written and edited before it is published. These individuals are professionals and educators in various universities. For example, the editor Amy J. Barton, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, ANEF, also works at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus.
Some of the topics emphasized in this journal include student collaborations, gaps in LGBTQ health education in undergraduate nursing programs, undergraduate students’ stress and fear, and teaching social justice in undergraduate nursing education. These are important topics to consider in nursing education (Journal of Nursing Education, 2020). LGBTQ individuals are vulnerable to mental health problems, which makes it an area of interest. Also, the well-being of students at school and the need to improve learning conditions is an ongoing debate, which is why it is emphasized in the journal (Journal of Nursing Education, 2020). Social justice is an important ethical issue in all sectors of society. Graduates should be people who can promote social justice at their workplace and the entire community.
The second journal is the Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA). It is the authoritative source of information on development and advances in patient care leadership. The evidence provided in this journal is gathered from directors of nursing, and nurse executives (JONA, 2020). Information also comes from nurse managers in hospital, community health, and ambulatory care environments. Apart from these, there are Practical, innovative, and solution-oriented articles related to nursing administration. All the articles published in this journal are peer-reviewed, selected, and developed with the guidance of different groups of editorial advisors. Like the Journal of Nursing Education, the Journal of Nursing Administration has a big group of editorial staff headed by a vice president (JONA, 2020). They are also professionals from various nursing organizations and some are professional nurses in various hospitals.
Some of the topics emphasized in this journal include nurse turnout during the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses’ knowledge and attitude of research in the academic healthcare system, and innovative solutions to disaster response (JONA, 2020). These are important topics in nursing administration. For example, COVID-19 has caused a significant influence on nursing administration, nurse shortages in particular, due to nurses leaving their profession as a result of fear. Nurses, especially those who have attained a master’s degree, should be engaged in more research to come up with innovations (JONA, 2020). Disaster response is one area of concern that needs serious attention.
In summary, these two journals have a significant contribution to nursing education and administration. They enhance easy access to peer-reviewed and high-quality evidence to improve nursing care. they both have an editorial team to ensure quality papers. All the important topics have been also addressed in these journals.
