Stages-Of-Life and The Influence of Age on Health Care

Introduction

Life stages from birth to adulthood have an influence on health care in one way or the other. People interact with the healthcare system as they transition from one stage to the other to cater to their needs (Polan & Taylor, 2019). In the process of transitioning from one stage to the other people tend to experience health care differently. As individuals grow older, their interactions with care providers change. Also, they become vulnerable to different health conditions, making them frequent visitors to the health care system (Polan & Taylor, 2019). This paper discusses an interview with a friend to discuss how the stage of life affected his interaction with health care professionals.

Do you feel that your stage of life had any effect on your interaction with health care professionals?

The patient interviewed, in this case, was a 35-year-old man who was recently hospitalized for urinary tract infections. The patient answered stating that he has had different experiences in interacting with healthcare professionals as he grows to mid-adulthood (Park et al., 2018). When he was young, the mother did the most of interaction with care providers. As he grows, he became interactive and health care professionals gave him more and more attention. Currently, he feels that his interaction has improved and care providers are giving him more attention and respect than when he was still a teenager.

Which areas of the hospital or clinic were most concerned with your well-being and feelings?

The respondent replied that the areas of the hospital concerned with his well-being are either outpatient or inpatient acute care hospitals. He added that he is treated by any health provider specializing in adult care because he is in his middle adulthood (Park et al., 2018). The respondent stated that this aspect of care has changed over time and may even change in the future. When one is still a child, they are handled in the pediatric department, but when they become older adults, they are cared for by geriatricians.

Was your family with you during the last hospital stay or outpatient visit?

The respondent stated that he was admitted during his last visit to a health care setting. He stated that he did not have a family member with him. An adult is anyone above 18 years. Adults like the interviewee can speak for themselves, they can make rational decisions, hence, do not need to be accompanied by their family members (Park et al., 2018). The patient reiterated that he does not need a family member to take him to the hospital when sick unless he is unable to do it due to severe sickness.

Was your family included in your treatment, such as post-procedure instructions?

The interviewee stated that family members were not included in the treatment because he walked to the hospital alone. Patient autonomy is very important and should be free from any external influence (Park et al., 2018). Patients are allowed to make decisions regarding their care if they can make rational decisions. He stated that there was no need to involve family because he was not bad off.

Conclusion

Life is a process and brings about different experiences as one moves from one stage to another. this paper involved interviewing a friend regarding how his stage of life impacts his experience with healthcare. His experience with health care has changed progressively as e grows old.
