Reach attached shared case example and then answer the following:

1. Given your experience, what social change would be desirable? What social change would be possible?

2. What are two or three macro-level interventions that could be used to lead to this social change in Anita’s case? Please be specific to the methods used as part of these interventions (e.g. coalitions, social marketing, advocacy, social media).

3. What are some ways to determine whether these interventions are effective?

Social Change

Based on the case study presented about Anita, several social problems have been noticed that are contributing to her problems. Social change would help Anita address some of her problems. For example, there is a need to change the social pattern that is associated with substance abuse, violence in the community, and poverty (Griffiths, 2017). All these are areas that can be changed. These are some of the areas that contribute to the issues experienced by Anita’s son. Truancy and dismal academic performance are strongly associated with substance abuse and poverty (Boone et al., 2018). Violence also leads to divorce, lack of adequate education, and poverty.

Some of the macro-level interventions that might lead to a change in Anita’s situation include community education, better policies, creation of more job positions. These three interventions will have a positive influence on Anita’s situation in one way or the other (Boone et al., 2018). For instance, community education will create awareness regarding the impact of substance abuse and violence on people, causes, solutions, and preventions. Community education requires both advocacy and collaboration from different agencies and organizations. Policies or legislation that define the consequences of law breaches can help address the issue (Griffiths, 2017). The creation of more job opportunities will provide Anita with stable employment, hence, solving financial issues. Both legislation and job creation require strong advocacy skills to be successful.

To evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions, questionnaires can be used to gauge student’s knowledge after the educative program. Furthermore, the employment rate may be measured to understand whether or not new jobs have been created. Regarding violence, the rates of violence can be measured to see any positive adjustments (Woodman & Threadgold, 2021). Reduction in truancy and improvement of academic performance in school-going children would show a positive impact.
