Healthcare Providers and Provider Organizations
The emergence of complex diseases and the changing healthcare trends cause healthcare organizations within a health system to increase spending in order to meet the rising demand for healthcare services. Policy reforms at the state and national levels compel the United States healthcare system to implement strategies that are aimed at improving population health (Austin & Wetle, 2016). In order to achieve this, healthcare organizations within the health system are expanding their operations and are forming new partnerships with healthcare providers and provider organizations. Healing Hands Hospital, for example, has numerous types of healthcare providers and works with other provider organizations in the healthcare system. The purpose of this assignment is to describe the differences in provider organizations in Orange County, California.
Physician Office Versus Health Care Retail Clinic
Provider organizations vary in terms of organizational structures, staffing, programs offered, and policies and procedures. For example, a physician office is a facility that is headed by a licensed physician or a group of licensed doctors. Retail health clinics, on the other hand, are small health centers that are designed to handle patients’ health needs at a personal level (Ahmed & Fincham, 2020). Examples of a physician office and a retail health clinic in Orange County California are Halcyon Health Direct Primary Care and University of California Irvine (UCI) Health, Orange Main Clinic respectively. Halcyon Health Direct Primary Care specializes in family practice and is headed by a group of women physicians. UCI Health, Orange Main Clinic provides high-quality and compassionate care to patients at their convenience. One of the differences between a physician office and a retail health clinic is that a physician office is located within a facility while a retail clinic is located within a retail store. Besides, a physician office such as Halcyon Health Direct Primary Care performs more specialized medical procedures and treatments for patients when compared to a retail health clinic like UCI Health, Orange Main Clinic. A study conducted by Ahmed and Fincham (2020) revealed that retail health clinics are more attractive to patients than physician offices due to the time and cost savings that they offer. However, a retail health clinic is staffed by physician assistants and nurse practitioners instead of physicians.
Non-Profit Versus For-Profit Hospital
Non-profit and for-profit hospitals are important components of the United States healthcare system. For-profit hospitals are medical facilities that are owned by investors and operate with the goal of earning profits. Conversely, non-profit hospitals are medical facilities that do not aim to earn profits for their owners from the services that they offer (Austin & Wetle, 2016; Jeurissen et al., 2021). An example of a non-profit hospital in Orange County California is Orange Coast Medical Center. The facility is located in Fountain Valley and is a member of the not-for-profit MemorialCare Health System. UCI Health is one of the for-profit healthcare facilities in Orange County, California. For-profit hospitals have external avenues for raising capital whereas non-profit hospitals do not.
Conclusion
Healing Hands can partner with several provider organizations in Orange County, California. It can collaborate with physician offices, retail health clinics, for-profit hospitals, and non-profit hospitals. These organizations will work together to ensure that patients received quality care at affordable costs. Partnering with provider organizations will enable Healing Hands Hospital to increase healthcare access to populations at relatively reduced costs enhanced by joint operations.
