Read through each scenario and post your response to each (2 posts), according to the questions asked, and then respond to one post on each scenario (2 responses).  You may post your response to the scenarios and your response to your classmates posts in one response or separate them; it is up to you.

3.  A patient, who is Asian and is 40 years old, comes to their first appointment with a healthcare provider.  The healthcare provider sees on the prescription that the patient was involved in a motor vehicle accident.  While asking the patient their medical history the provider asks the patient if they were driving when the accident happened and the provider then states “You probably haven’t had your driver’s license for long and therefore lack driving experience .”  What is the assumption that the healthcare provider has made?  How might you have handled this situation differently?

 

4.Two female healthcare providers are walking through the hospital and notice a women with a burqa, which are worn in Islamic societies.  They comment that they would not want to have to wear that every day.  What possible assumptions are these healthcare providers making?  If you were engaged in this discussion how might you better have this conversation?

 

Each scenario is worth 2.5 points a piece for answering the following questions

· What assumptions have been made

· What cultural context is impacting this interaction

· How would you have handled this differently
