Family Health Promotion
Family health is an important aspect of individual health. Levine (2021) reports that many diseases can be the result of a combination of environmental factors and genetic factors received from our ancestors. The genetic makeup of an individual can be traced back to eight generations, given the diversity of genes (Levine, 2021). With family health, it’s easy to share crucial health information, particularly health history with a care provider and other family members (Haga & Orlando, 2020). Sharing information about common diseases in the family, health practices like physical activities, diet, environmental conditions, and so on gives crucial guidance to the family doctor on what to do to provide the best care (Haga & Orlando, 2020). With this information, certain hereditary diseases can be prevented via early intervention to improve the general quality of life.
Promoting good health involves taking actions that foster healthy behaviors and wellbeing. One strategy of doing that is by informing family members about the information gathered and telling them what to do to stay healthy (VicHealth, 2021). Secondly, health providers should focus on addressing the conditions within the community that influence health and wellbeing the most to create a healthy community. The whole population should be involved in the struggles to improve communal and family health. Care providers should also strive to give people the power to control and improve their health (Barnes et al., 2020). This can be done by training individuals on what they can do at their capacity to enhance good health. For instance, people should be trained on the importance of undertaking physical activities and the ones they can do just by themselves (Barnes et al., 2020). Such activities, including dietary and hygiene, promote family health and that of the community at large.
