Evidence Based Practice Presentations and Abstract
THE PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
1. Presentation: The online presentation must be completed by, and presented on, the assigned online Presentation discussion board in order to receive a grade for this assignment. An exception will be made only in exceptional or emergency circumstances (formal written documentation of such circumstances is required). Students must create their presentations themselves. Any student found to have had the presentation done professionally or by another person will receive a zero grade for this assignment.
This project is to be done individually.
2. Identify a nursing practice problem, an aspect of nursing practice, or a nursing intervention that is of particular interest to you. It must be within the jurisdiction of nursing, i.e.; an area where nursing authority may be exercised. Where it borders on an area of medical practice, nursing must have meaningful collaborative participation in practice.
3. Conduct a search for evidence on the clinical issue utilizing the PIOCT question. Search for least three (3) research articles that relate to the clinical issue and help to answer the clinical question (PICOT). The studies you select must be research studies and are on the level of evidence pyramid. Be sure to choose RESEARCH ARTICLES. Articles must be no more than 5-7 years old and related to the topic unless it is seminal work on the topic. All three articles are for the poster presentation on Poster Day. All three-research articles must be related to the clinical issue and be critically appraised and evaluated for a potential change in practice.
4. Using a PIOCT questions search for research articles on the clinical issue. Choose three (3) research articles that are interesting and are well done. You will critically appraise this evidence and disseminate the information on the poster presentation.
5. Students will exhibit their presentations through the Message Board. Once your presentation is done you will start your own thread, label the thread with your Last Name and title, in the topic line. In the detail section, put your abstract of the poster and references. Load the presentation as a link to your video or voiced over power point. It must be a voiced over presentation.
8. Presentation: The presentation must be constructed for virtual viewing. It must be a voice narration power point or Prezi. You can use software such as Screen-cast-o-matic (http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/ ) to create a video or any other video capture software. It needs to be in a format that can be viewed online (mp4 or weblink). Be creative and develop a presentation that presents the information in a clear, logical and creative manner.
9. Download the presentation-grading criteria. You will use this to evaluate three (3) student voiced over presentations. Sign the student’s thread to let them know you will be grading their work. Once you completed the grading upload the grade sheet into the MB thread of the student you grading and upload the grade sheet by choosing reply and attach document. (No more than three (3) students to one presentation).
10. Upload as one document in assignments the abstract and references of your presentation. Do not upload the ppt in assignments. Upload it in the message board.
EXAMPLE of Presentation References and Abstract
1. List all 3 References using full citations. They must be in correct APA 6th edition format.
Example of one reference:
Haines, T., Bennell, K., Osborne, R., & Hill, K. (2014). Effectiveness of targeted falls prevention programme in subacute hospital setting: randomized control trial. British Medical Journal, 328(7441): 676. doi: 10.1136/bmj.328.7441.676.
2. Abstract: A Brief single paragraph that is a comprehensive Summary Of The Presentation. Must be on a separate page from the above references, and in correct APA format. Abstracts are 250 words or less.
Example of poster abstract:
Abstract
Fall safety for elderly patients represents a major concern for many hospital facilities. Falls can result in serious injury or even death and can increase the financial burden felt by many hospitals. Numerous studies examine the efficacy of the fall prevention programs within hospitals. The purpose of this evidence appraisal was to investigate the effectiveness of targeted multifactorial fall prevention programs when compared to usual care. Databases such as CINAHL and Medline were searched which resulted in three research articles used in this appraisal. This poster examined why fall safety is an important clinical issue and the significance it holds for the field of nursing. In the process of analyzing these articles, research components such as level of evidence used, design, as well as the sample and setting used were explored. In addition, this appraisal inspected the type of variables and measurement methods used, and it looked at various data collection and analysis procedures. Lastly, the study’s strengths and limitations were discussed, along with the future implications these findings have for hospital fall safety programs.
