Epidemiology deals with the study and analysis of how diseases and health challenges spread. Epidemiology also develops preventive measures to prevent and control the spread of these diseases. Epidemiological research helps the public understand how certain diseases or disorders are brought to a population.

The first step in the epidemiologic process is confirming the existence of the epidemic and diagnosing the outbreak. Thesecond step is the collection of data on this case to help come up with a definition. Next is data interpretion by analyzing the time, place, and person. Which then led to the development of a hypothesis. You would then implement interventions and monitor their effectiveness

Population risk refers to the possibility of an epidemic or condition occurring in a certain population group. Population risk analyses how prevalent a risk factor is between a group of people. It also uses research to determine the health outcomes of certain regions. Levels of prevention are strategies that are in place to promote health and prevent diseases. Primary prevention prevents the disease or condition before it occurs examples include education, lifestyle modifications, and vaccines. Secondary prevention is early detection that helps slow the progression at an early stage. Examples of secondary prevention are health screenings and early treatment. Tertiary prevention focuses on rehabilitation to help improve the quality of life once a disease has taken its course. The web of causation model is used to understand the factors that impact the occurrence of health outcomes.
