An example of how my hospital\’s organization chart: I am the CNO and all clinical staff report up through me and I report to the CEO. Any decisions coming from our Medical Governing Board or CEO is passed down to me and them implemented by me to the appropriate staff such at laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, nursing etc.
Discussion 1-1:
Contemporary organizations constantly engage in organizational development to improve performance and effectiveness. Organizational development plays a crucial role in contemporary organizations because it supports reforms that are aimed at improving the effectiveness of healthcare delivery processes (Millela et al., 2021). According to Kotter and Cohen (2002), organizational development usually begins with the identification of priorities and the selection of interventions that can best be implemented to bring about change. For example, my organization recently engaged in organizational development to integrate a computerized provider order entry technology. The technology now allows healthcare providers to electronically enter and share treatment instructions amongst themselves. The change started with the creation of an organizational development plan based on the organization’s needs.
For organizational development to successfully result in the realization of a change, the management and stakeholders must combine ideas to be able to address the needs of the whole system. Organizational development is normally managed from the top (Millela et al., 2021). The leadership must first identify strategic issues, explore the financial capacity of the organization, communicate the intended action to other leaders in the organization’s hierarchy and employees, and plan training to improve employees’ knowledge and skills to implement an intended reform (Millela et al., 2021). For example, as recently witnessed in my organization, organizational development concerning the integration of a computerized provider order entry technology was managed from the top. I am the CNO and all clinical staff report up through me and I report to the CEO. Any decisions coming from our Medical Governing Board or CEO are passed down to me and then implemented by me to the appropriate staff such at the laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, nursing, and other staff in the organization.
