Reflect over the past seven weeks and describe how the achievement of the course outcomes in this course have prepared you to meet:
MSN program Outcome # 5
MSN Essential # VIII
NONPF Nurse Practitioner Core Competency # 8
Please review the following:
Chamberlain College of Nursing Program Outcome #5
Advocates for positive health outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative advanced nursing practice. (Extraordinary nursing)
Masters Essential VIII: Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving Health
Integrate clinical prevention and population health concepts in the development of culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate health education, communication strategies, and interventions.
Design patient-centered and culturally responsive strategies in the delivery of clinical prevention and health promote on interventions and/or services to individuals, families, communities, and aggregates/clinical populations.
NONPF: #8 Ethics Competencies
Integrates ethical principles in decision making.
Evaluates the ethical consequences of decisions.
Applies ethically sound solutions to complex issues related to individuals, populations and systems of care.
Students will reflect on each of the listed outcomes or competencies listed above individually and provide two (2) examples for each. Examples can be from course assignments or clinical experiences.
Please review the following rubrics:
The reflection specifically identifies and addresses the pre-determined program outcome and provides two (2) or more examples of how the student specifically achieved or had exposure to this outcome during this course/clinical.

Nursing students constantly engage in personal reflection to assess whether they are meeting or have met course competencies. Nursing institutions have set program outcomes that they expect students to meet at the end of a course or a program. Additionally, nursing students in their Master’s programs are expected to demonstrate how completing specific course requirements has enabled them to meet various MSN Essentials and NONPF Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies (National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, 2017; Grech, 2021). The purpose of this discussion is to provide a personal reflection on how achieving course outcomes has enabled the learner to meet, MSN program Outcome # 5, MSN Essential # VIII, and NONPF Nurse Practitioner Core Competency # 8.
Chamberlain College of Nursing Program Outcome #5
Advocates for positive health outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative advanced nursing practice. (Extraordinary nursing).
The student has advocated for positive health outcomes in personal experiences with patients in the past seven weeks thereby meeting MSN program Outcome # 5. For example, the student has demonstrated compassion and evidence-based practice by selecting therapeutic interventions that are not only effective but which are also supported by research evidence. Nurses have been trained to provide compassionate and collaborative care that is informed by evidence-based research (Treas et al., 2018). In this course, the learner has collaborated with other healthcare professionals when developing a treatment plan for the elderly virtual client and for other patients thereby demonstrating collaborative advanced nursing practice.
MSN Essential # VIII
Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving Health
Nursing practice primarily entails clinical prevention and improvement of the health of patients and populations. The student met MSN Essential # VIII in the course by engaging in activities that were aimed to not only improve the health of patients but also those of populations. For example, when handling patients with both acute and chronic health conditions, the student incorporated clinical prevention and population health concepts into the development of culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate health education, communication strategies, and interventions (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2011). Today’s nurses are expected to demonstrate cultural competence to be able to provide effective care to diverse patient populations (Treas et al., 2018). When developing care plans for aging adults, the student designed culturally responsive and patient-centered strategies that facilitated the delivery of clinical prevention and health promotion interventions and/or services to the patients and their families.
NONPF Nurse Practitioner Core Competency # 8
Ethics Competencies
Graduate nurses are expected to possess competencies that will enable them to provide ethically appropriate care to patients and their families. The student was able to meet NONPF Core Competency #8 in a number of ways. For example, the leaner applied ethical principles when making clinical decisions for aging and aged patients. Additionally, when choosing treatment options for patients, the student evaluated the ethical impacts of their decisions on their patients and families. This was followed by the application of ethically sound solutions to complex issues related to individuals, populations, and systems of care (National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, 2017).
Conclusion
Course requirements completed over the past seven weeks provided an opportunity for learning and improvement. By completing course requirements, the student was able to meet MSN program Outcome # 5, MSN Essential # VIII, and NONPF Nurse Practitioner Core Competency # 8. The competencies acquired during the course will be applied in future nursing practice to improve patient outcomes.
