Topic 9, Discussion Question 1
Project presentation is one of the most challenging times for many students. I have both strengths and weaknesses regarding the professional presentation. My strength is related to preparation for the presentation (Tribe & Marshall, 2020). I always prepare accordingly before the presentation day. I always have everything ready. All slides and detailed speaker notes are always in place three or two days before the actual day (Tribe & Marshall, 2020). My laptop and any other relevant materials are always set before the actual day. I usually begin rehearsing two days before the presentation day to avoid confusion and frustrations.
One weakness I have is that I sometimes get nervous when speaking in front of people. A little nervous is not bad, but when it escalates can be so disorienting. Points can easily go away and focus may be lost when one gets nervous (Tribe & Marshall, 2020). This feeling normally comes when one has taken a long time before speaking publicly in front of people. I have always addressed this issue by performing inform of friends or classroom before the presentation day. Classmates acting reflecting the audience will make me get used to such an environment so that I would not be scared during the actual presentation. Additionally, I often addressed this weakness through thorough preparation to ensure that the chances of becoming frustrated and getting more nervous is reduced (Tribe & Marshall, 2020). Frustration due to lack of preparedness may worsen the feeling of nervousness. However, preparation improves confidence, which in turn reduces the possibility of becoming nervous.
