Sustaining change can be difficult, as there are many variables that can affect implementation. One critical component of EBP is to ensure that practice change is part of an organization\’s culture so it will continue to impact outcomes over time. Name two potential barriers that may prevent your EBP change proposal from continuing to obtain the same desired results 6 months to a year from now, and your strategies for overcoming these barriers.

Topic 9, Discussion Question 2

Most healthcare organizations will experience barriers to project implementation. There are several possible barriers to the implementation of this project. For example, lack of sufficient time to carry out staff education is a major barrier. The staff will be required to attend the lessons while also attending to the patients, so time will be a challenge (Bahadori et al., (2016). Another possible barrier is the lack of adequate finance to ensure all the facilities are required to complete this project. This project requires some expensive equipment such as biometric machines and cameras which require a huge amount of money to either buy or hire. Therefore, a financial challenge is anticipated. Resistance from staff and other stakeholders is likely to be a barrier (Bahadori et al., (2016). Not everyone will embrace a change easily.

To address these barriers, there will be two lessons per day to cater to all healthcare providers. Staff will spend a few hours after their shifts to participate in the staff education part of this project until the lessons are done (Bahadori et al., (2016). All the staff cannot attend these lessons at the same time because there will be no one to attend to patients. Additionally, they will be attending the lessons after their shifts, so they will only take a few hours because they are already exhausted. However, they will receive sitting allowances as a motivation for their commitment.  To address the issue related to finance, other sources of funding such as fundraising, friends, and sponsorship will be helpful (Bahadori et al., (2016). Other interest groups such as professional associations, government agencies, and non-governmental agencies may help address financial challenges.
