Virtual Write-Up #9

This handwashing project proposal has several sections. The proposed intervention involves both staff education and clinical supervision.  First, all the participants will undergo education about handwashing and hygiene to create awareness regarding what is required of them (Gwarzo, 2018). Education will take place for one week at different times to ensure all the healthcare providers can participate. After educating the healthcare providers, heads of departments will be granted the obligation of reinforcing the handwashing rules.

Credible evidence-based literature has been used to support the intervention. The type of search strategy applied ensured that only reliable evidence was used. The objectives include promoting adherence to handwashing, demonstrating effective handwashing within the organization, increasing awareness regarding handwashing, and others (Gwarzo, 2018). Resources needed include human resources, teaching and learning materials, a handwashing facility, computers, and cameras, and biometric machines.  human resources needed include nurses and physicians because they are in direct and constant contact with patients. Others include educators, heads of departments, and other leaders (Gwarzo, 2018). Teaching and learning materials include videos, handouts, books, and pens. Handwashing facilities include specific handwashing hardware including a tippy tap or washbasin, soap, or any other relevant equipment.

Anticipated measurable outcomes include improved adherence to frequent handwashing practices, effective handwashing procedures among healthcare providers, increased knowledge regarding handwashing practices, and reduced incidences of hospital-acquired infections. Evaluation is also an important part of the capstone project (Gwarzo, 2018). First, post and pre-test questionnaires will be used to evaluate staff knowledge regarding handwashing and hygiene. Frequency of handwashing and adherence to the handwashing procedures and also some of the areas that will be evaluated (Gwarzo, 2018). Evaluation will also involve the analysis of new hospital-acquired infections.
