Discuss why EBP is an essential component of the practice of a BSN-prepared RN. Identify two ways in which you will continue to integrate evidence into your practice and encourage it within your work environment. What obstacles could challenge this plan, and what steps will you take to minimize their impact?

Topic 10, Discussion Question 2
Evidence-based practice is an essential component of nursing care. Evidence-based practice is used to identify the best healthcare practices to improve patient outcomes. For example, frequent and proper handwashing is an evidence-based practice proven to prevent hospital-acquired infections transmitted through hands. The evidence-based practice originates from cohort studies, case-control analysis, or observational studies (Karagiannis, 2019). It improves the quality of care and patient outcomes.
Nursing and healthcare leaders must ensure that the application of evidence-based practice is maintained in a healthcare setting. One of the ways of integrating evidence-based practice at the workplace is through clinical supervision (Karagiannis, 2019). Nurse managers, heads of departments, physicians, all have supervisory responsibility. Clinical supervision will ensure evidence base practice is integrated to improve patient outcomes. Another way to integrate evidence-based practice at the workplace is through staff training or education (Karagiannis, 2019). Staff training equips them with new knowledge to ensure they remain updated about evidence-based practices.
Some of the barriers that could hinder the application of evidence-based practice include lack of financial support and insufficient time. The staff is normally required to attend the lessons while also attending to the patients, so time is usually a major challenge (Bahadori et al., (2016). Also, financial resources are usually needed to support the entire implementation process. To address these two major barriers, there should be two lessons per day to cater to all healthcare providers. Staff will spend a few hours after their shifts to participate in the staff education part of this project until the lessons are done (Bahadori et al., (2016). Other sources of funding such as fundraising, friends, and sponsorship may also be helpful.
