Students will prepare a Patient Education Pamplet for use by health care providers caring for a fictional patient focusing on a specific disease or condition. This is a medication education and patient teaching tool. Choosing from a variety of technology methods and templates, students will create a professionally prepared educational pamphlet for use by the general public. The student will select a medical disease/condition and one prevalent medication used to treat that condition and prepare the Educational Pamphlet. The pamphlet will include Pharmacology, dosing, administration, adverse effects, warnings, interactions and uses of the medication. The pamphlet will also include a brief description in nonprofessional terminology of the disease or condition. | Through this assignment, the student will integrate pharmacology knowledge and information into the development of an educational pamphlet suitable for a patient, family, caregiver or members of the general public. Practicum Project

Students will create and present a professionally prepared educational project utilizing a Power Point presentation for peers and co-workers in a healthcare setting. To give guidance and support with the project, the student will procure a qualified mentor that is employed at the healthcare facility. A Need’s Assessment will be completed, and a specific need identified for the presentation topic. Students will locate a current research or peer-reviewed article that provides evidence to substantiate the project topic. An educational plan and PowerPoint presentation will be created and presented for staff that will address the identified educational need or deficiency. At the conclusion of the presentation, the student will provide to participants an evaluation form to collect and evaluate data to determine the effectiveness of the presentation. A Time Log documenting dates, duration, and outline of activities in each of the three areas of the project: planning, research, and development will be submitted. A Journal will summarize the experience and reflection of the student’s experience and overall value of the project. | Through the development and presentation of this project, students take an active role in leadership, management, and development of professionalism.
