An experiment showed that Hispanic children who had only been in contact with other children who had attended a health education class lost weight and exercised more effectively. Although there is a desire for improvement, overcoming the obstacles is required to bring about change. Because cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among Hispanics and affects such a large percentage of the population, educational material in Spanish about the causes of cardiovascular disease would be an effective way to raise awareness. The language and educational barriers would be broken down because of this. The information shared would include factors such as exercise, the appropriate diets, and how they would overcome certain barriers to getting effective health care. Many people from the community do not visit the hospital and as such go to the hospital when it is too late for certain conditions which could be detected early and treated, or prevention mechanisms put in place.
